Drive & Destroy SFX - 266 Car, Crash & Zombie Sounds
A downloadable asset pack
LISTEN FIRST: every sound in the trailer below comes from this pack, over gameplay from our game Zombie Mile.
PLAY IT IN YOUR BROWSER: drive through the horde and try every sound for free in the Drive & Destroy SFX sound demo, or download 27 sounds free in Drive & Destroy SFX Lite.
Drive through the horde and hear every hit. 266 sounds for car-combat, zombie-driving, destruction and arcade racing games: four engines with seamless RPM loops, turbo and rocket boost, skids and landings, cartoon zombie splats, crashes, explosions, roof guns, pick-ups, a rescue helicopter and four ambience loops.
Four engines that really rev
- Old sedan, pickup, muscle car, army truck - each with seamless idle, low, mid and high RPM loops, start-ups, rev-ups, rev-downs and horns.
- Crossfade the four loops by RPM and bend their pitch, and the engine sweeps from idle to redline (the Unity package does this for you).
What is inside
- Boost: turbo spool, whistle loop, blow-off; rocket ignition, roar loop, cut-off.
- Driving and terrain: brake squeal, skids (and skid loops), dirt slides, gear shifts, tyre pop, landings light / medium / heavy, bumps, wheelspin, gravel loops, creaks.
- Impacts: cartoon zombie splats soft / medium / heavy (squishy and comic), groans, metal crashes, crates, barrels, concrete, glass, car roll-over.
- Explosions: small, medium, large, fuel barrel, debris rain - stereo with outdoor reverb.
- Roof weapons: pistol, SMG, machine gun (loop + tail), minigun (spin-up, loop, spin-down), laser, shells, reload.
- Game moments: fuel can, cash bag, coins, 8-step rising combo, survivor-rescued jingle, roadblock fanfare, low-fuel alarm, out-of-fuel sputter, engine die, game over.
- Rescue helicopter: rotor loop, fly-in, lift-off. Ambience: suburbs, desert, night city, forest (32 s seamless stereo).
Downloads
- Drive-Destroy-SFX-WAV-48k.zip - 266 WAV files, 48 kHz 16-bit, peak -3 dBFS, trimmed with short fades; 30 seamless loops; PDF guide.
- Drive-Destroy-SFX-OGG.zip - OGG Vorbis copies of every sound; PDF guide.
- Rasterloom-Drive-Destroy-SFX.unitypackage - the same sounds for Unity 2022.3+, with scripts and the demo scene.
- File names: DD_<sound>_<variant>.wav, e.g. DD_splat_heavy_03.wav. Works in any engine (Godot, GameMaker, Unity, Unreal, Defold, web).
Unity users
The Unity package adds a ready player, a Vehicle Engine Sound component (rpm + throttle in, smooth engine out, with gear shifts, boost and stall), a no-code emitter and a playable demo: a side-scrolling drive-through-the-horde mini game illustrated with the art of our game Zombie Mile (pick a car, a roof gun and a place, then smash through zombies, crates, barrels and roadblocks).
How it was made
Every sound is synthesised by our own code: a crank-angle engine model with exhaust resonances, modal synthesis for metal, wood and glass, granular debris and gravel, filtered-noise explosions with generated reverb. No samples, no third-party recordings, no generative audio model. The synthesis code, scripts and texts were written with the help of an AI assistant (Claude). The demo and trailer art comes from our game Zombie Mile, whose illustrations were made with the help of an AI image tool and edited by us; it is demo material, not part of the sound files.
Licence
Use the sounds in any number of commercial or non-commercial games and apps, no attribution required. Do not resell or redistribute the files themselves.
