Deckbuilder Core - Roguelike Card Game Framework for Unity
A downloadable tool

Deckbuilder Core is a complete starting point for a single-player roguelike deckbuilder in Unity. The rules engine is plain, deterministic C#; the content is ScriptableObjects; the battle, map and room screens are ready-made uGUI that you can reskin or replace.
NEW IN VERSION 1.1 - REPLAYABILITY
- Heat: difficulty levels without a cap. 10 named steps (tougher foes, elite hunters, sharper claws, lean purse, hardened elites, weary rest, cursed start, greedy merchants, wounded, tyrant's wrath), then more enemy HP and damage on every level. All steps are data in the Run Config.
- Elite traits: Enraged, Armored, Thorny, Vigorous, Regenerating, Vengeful - shown in the enemy name ("Vigorous Iron Warden").
- Endless mode: after the boss, go on to a new act with stronger enemies and more traits.
- Daily and weekly challenges: the same seed for everyone (UTC) with random twists.
- Run-only cards that appear only as elite and boss rewards (4 in the demo), marked RUN ONLY.
- Player profile (plain JSON): shards earned in every run, card collection and crafting, 3 daily quests with reroll, records and best challenge scores. Ready-made Progress and Collection screens.
- Heat curve in the Balance Simulator: the bot plays hundreds of runs per Heat level and shows win rates and deaths.
- Fixes: enemy death animation error in the Editor, long tooltip titles. Enemy names show on hover. Saves from 1.0 still load.
DATA-DRIVEN CONTENT
- Cards: cost (or X), type, rarity, target, text template with live tokens ({damage} already includes Strength, Weak and the target's Vulnerable), effect list, keywords (Exhaust, Ethereal, Retain, Innate, Unplayable) and an upgrade.
- 13 built-in effect kinds: Damage (multi-hit, X cost, scaling), Block, Heal, Lose HP, Draw, Discard, Gain Energy, Apply Status, Exhaust, Add Card, Upgrade Cards, Remove Debuffs, Gain Max Energy, plus Custom effects registered from code. Every effect can have a condition (target has a status, HP below %, previous hit killed, enemy intends to attack, chance...).
- Statuses with stacking (intensity or duration), decay rules, stat modifiers and triggers. Poison, Burn, Weak, Vulnerable, Frail, Strength, Dexterity, Regen, Thorns, Ritual, Plated Armor and more are all built from data.
- Enemies with intent icons and move patterns (cycle, weighted random with no-repeat limits, scripted openings). Relics with triggers (battle start, turn start, every 3rd Attack, shuffle, victory...).
BATTLE ENGINE
- Draw, hand, discard and exhaust piles with a seeded shuffle, reshuffle when empty, hand limit, energy, turn loop, enemy intents, player choices ("discard a card").
- Action queue: reactions such as Thorns or relics resolve in the right order; the rules run instantly and produce an ordered event stream that the view plays back with animations.
- Event bus (CardPlayed, Damaged, TurnStarted, StatusChanged...) for your own gameplay hooks.
- Deterministic: same seed + same commands = same battle. Save any battle or a whole run to JSON and continue it exactly.
ROGUELIKE RUN
- Seeded layered map with fights, elites, rest sites, merchants, events, treasure and a boss; paths never cross; room rules (no early elites, rest before the boss...).
- Card rewards by rarity weights with rare pity, relic rewards, merchant with card removal, rest (heal or upgrade), text events with gold costs.
READY UI (uGUI, no TextMeshPro, no prefabs)
- Hand fan with hover zoom, drag to play, drag or click to target with a curved arrow, play and draw animations, floating numbers, hit effects, screen shake.
- Enemy intents with live damage numbers, HP bars with block, status icons with tooltips, energy orb, pile viewers, end turn, banners.
- Map, rewards, merchant, rest site, events, deck viewer, top bar with relics, auto-save and Continue.
- Theme asset: card frame pieces, layout rectangles, icons, backgrounds, fonts and sounds. Works with the Input System package or the legacy Input Manager, in Built-in, URP and HDRP.
EDITOR TOOLS
- Card inspector with live base / upgraded preview and "generate text from effects".
- Effect drawer that shows only the fields an effect uses, Card Library window, content Validator, Balance Simulator (a bot plays hundreds of seeded runs and reports win rates).
CONTENT AND DEMO
- 54 example cards (4 run-only), 13 statuses, 8 enemies (6 regular, 1 elite, 1 boss), 10 relics, 5 events, a complete demo run with art, frames, icons and sounds.
- 56 EditMode tests and a PDF user guide (quick start "your first card in 5 minutes", architecture, API, custom effects, save format).
TECHNICAL
- Unity 2022.3 LTS or newer; uGUI. Optional Input System package (detected automatically).
- Render pipelines: Built-in, URP, HDRP (no pipeline-specific code; UI uses the default UI material).
- Assemblies: Rasterloom.Deckbuilder (core), Rasterloom.Deckbuilder.UI, .Editor, .Demo, .Tests. Namespace Rasterloom.Deckbuilder.
- 40 C# scripts, 82 ScriptableObject assets, 1 demo scene, 176 sprites (PNG/JPG), 19 sounds (OGG), Poppins font (SIL OFL).

IN THE DOWNLOAD
- Rasterloom-Deckbuilder-Core.unitypackage (import into Unity 2022.3+), the PDF user guide, README, and the demo illustrations (cards, characters, icons, backgrounds) as PNG for prototyping in other engines.
No image, audio or video generation model was used. The art is drawn by our own procedural code. The C# code, documentation and texts were written with the help of Claude (Anthropic).
